Spring Cleaning - Spring 2010

Spring Cleaning, it's about time... While I thought the first couple of these blog entries would be tricky I have found that each one is as tricky as the next. Perhaps after I do a few more or get some more of the team submitting it will get easier. Let's make this topic more in line with technology, let me climb on my soap box first.

To all the companies that we currently don't support, please don't forget technology or worry about it only when it breaks.

Anyone I talk to, whether Geek or Executive Officer, agrees technology has become a vital part of business and in some cases will bring a vast majority of operations to a standstill if not kept running. Do you know what the lost revenue or potential cost estimate is for IT Downtime in an average company? - According to www.Gartner.com - a lot. Depending on how you quantify it, some research suggests that for average downtime a small company could stand to lose as much as $42,000.00 a year. For a larger company, when employees cannot use their computers, do things manually until they can enter data at a later time, losses can scale into the millions.

So what is the point of this blog you might ask? Simple - To encourage readers to try to be more proactive, not reactive, do a little planning and don't forget that your IT infrastructure needs attention even if it is running well. Just a like a car, every once in a while you need to add gas or change the oil and, yes, even replace it from time to time.

Being Thankful – Thanksgiving 2009

Tech Lessons learned #4201: If you wait too long to publish a blog; a new topic will replace it.

Businesses have certainly seen our share of interesting times this year. Instead of pointing out the obvious economic and various other issues (just turn on the news), I thought I would take a moment to just say, “Thanks”. This week, the RFX family had the opportunity to welcome two beautiful new babies and also share the joy and emotion that plays into the purchase of one’s first home.

Hopefully, you will have time to stop a moment, be quiet for a fraction of a second and give Thanks as well.

This year, for some reason, the idea that you can share and be thankful with someone is very important to me. I hope each of you will have a chance to do that very thing. Time with family with friends should not be taken for granted as time is not limitless but one more thing to be thankful for.

Three quick “shout outs” because I can –

First to Mom; as another holiday comes and goes I am so thankful for the time you were in my life. We miss you being part of our day to day; our laughter, and our tears. Thank you for being my Mom!

To my Lovely Wife, thanks for being a rock that allows me to be successful in the ways I measure success. As long as you are by my side I will always have much to be thankful for. (Happy Birthday!)

Lastly, kids, thanks! A Dad could not be prouder, continue to always listen to your hearts and you will always be amazing.

Happy Thanksgiving! (Techie business stuff to follow after the holiday….)

October 9, 2009

The first entry in a blog could well be the most important as it could set the tone (good or bad) for so many of the postings to follow. Luckily we are planning on making this a "collective" blog with submissions coming from several folks in our company (maybe even you) so consistency of tone might not exist at all, but I digress.

This first Blog is going to be used for a few things;

First to thank our clients - Many of us have had a rough financial year (09) and some of our clients have been hit very hard. During this time, regardless of the severity to which our clients have been impacted each of them has maintained a professional attitude and we have really enjoyed partnering with them - so thank you.

Secondly I have to send out a huge THANK YOU to the staff here at RFX, on behalf of the partners. The team members have been amazing this past year, putting in many late nights and long hours. During this past year they moved us, took care of clients and took care of each other. Whenever I share stories about the folks that work at RFX and what they are willing to do for each other most people really don’t believe it.

The third and final part of this blog is dedicated to the new arrivals or soon to be arrivals of our extended work family. Congrats to the Fox family on their beautiful baby girl, to the Ashbrook family on their new baby boy and to the Harrod family on the upcoming arrival of their twins.

As a company (extended family) we have experienced hardships and sadness but we have also experienced a lot of joy; during holidays, parties, potlucks, weddings, new homes and new babies to name a few.

Thanks again to our clients for allowing us to be here and thanks to the team members for making us who we are.
